Strengthening Higher Education in the Mediterranean Region

In the midst of an unprecedented global health emergency crisis, the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) celebrates its 25th Anniversary and brings to the table key issues to further enhance cooperation and dialogue in the region through Higher Education, Research and Innovation.

In line with the Bologna Process and the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), the UfM aims to maximise international mobility in the region as a means to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education, promote lifelong learning opportunities for all and increase employability, which are also part of the Global Development Agenda of the United Nations.

With more than 60 schools in the European and Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Area, EABHES promotes and supports initiatives and collaborations among member schools to enhance cooperation and strengthen Higher Education in the Mediterranean Area. Increasing students’ mobility and promoting intercultural dialogue are key for more inclusive and stable economies in the region, which contributes to a more peaceful future.

The UfM is an intergovernmental institution bringing together the European Union Member States and 15 countries from the Southern and Eastern shores of the Mediterranean to promote dialogue and cooperation in order to address three strategic objectives: human development, regional stability and integration.
